v2.1

Changelog

What changed in each v2 release of the DualSense Plugin for Unreal Engine.

The format follows Keep a Changelog. Versions are the plugin version, not the engine version.

2.1.0

Since October 2026

Unreal Engine 5.7 and 5.8. The first v2 release for 5.8.

Added

  • Unreal Engine 5.8 support. The same source is packaged for 5.7 and 5.8.
  • PS, Touchpad and Mic buttons as Unreal keys: DualSense PS Button, DualSense Touchpad Click and DualSense Mic Button, in a new DualSense category of the key picker. You can map them in Input Mapping Contexts and use them in InputKey events. See Input.

Fixed

  • The three buttons above were sent to Unreal under names it did not know, so they were dropped and could not be mapped.
  • A compiler warning (C4189, unused local variable) when building a packaged game.

Demo

  • Input goes through the plugin only: RawInput and the old GenericUSBController_* mappings are gone.
  • Options (or P) pauses and resumes the game.
  • When the player stands on two trigger pads at once, the last one entered wins; leaving it activates the other one again.
  • New boot screen: press ✕ to start.

Known issues

  • With more than one controller, every controller's input arrives as the first player's. Output (lightbar, triggers, rumble) is already separate per controller. See Multiple controllers.
  • The controller is read on the game thread, which can cost a few milliseconds per frame, more over Bluetooth.
  • Touch position, gyroscope, accelerometer and battery level are read but not exposed yet.

2.0.0

September 2026 · Beta

Unreal Engine 5.7. A complete rewrite of the plugin. Upgrading from 1.x? Read the migration guide.

Added

  • Native input device. The DualSense is an Unreal input device: buttons, sticks and triggers work with Enhanced Input like any gamepad, without the RawInput plugin.
  • Up to 4 controllers, over USB or Bluetooth, DualSense and DualSense Edge. A controller that reconnects gets its slot back and its output state is sent again; buttons held during a disconnect are released.
  • DS Blueprint node library (UDualSenseFunctionLibrary): lightbar, player LEDs, mic LED, rumble, trigger effects, connection status. No component needed.
  • UDualSenseSubsystem for C++, a Game Instance Subsystem that stores the output state of each controller.
  • 12 adaptive trigger effects: Off, Feedback, Weapon, Vibration, Slope Feedback, Multiple Position Feedback, Multiple Position Vibration, Bow, Galloping, Machine, plus Raw bytes. Parameters in readable units (zones 0–9, strengths 1–8, Hz), with ranges shown on the nodes.
  • Unreal Force Feedback support: Play Force Feedback, Force Feedback Components and haptic feedback drive the rumble motors.
  • Force Feedback Effect Device Properties: Trigger Resistance, Trigger Feedback, Trigger Vibration and Device Color from Force Feedback Effect assets, also previewed in the editor. They sit on top of the game's state and give it back when they end.
  • Player LED presets (Player 1 to 4) with brightness and fade.

Changed

  • The output state is kept per controller and merged: setting the lightbar no longer resets the triggers, rumble or LEDs.
  • Output is only written to the controller when something changed. You no longer send the state every frame.
  • Rumble takes values from 0 to 1 and reaches the full strength of the motors.
  • Trigger parameters are whole numbers with clamping, so every combination is safe to send.

Fixed

  • Section Resistance now applies its force (in 1.x the force was never sent).
  • Trigger parameters are no longer cut to whole numbers between 0 and 255, which turned values like 0.5 into 0.

Removed

  • The DualSenseControllerManager component and its nodes (Initialize, Update, Free, Update Lightbar Color). Replaced by the DS nodes.
  • The Calibrate trigger effect and the FDSColor struct.

1.x

Version 1 (1.0 to 1.3.0, Unreal Engine 5.1 to 5.7) is documented in the v1 docs.
